It may be only a few months old, but Entertainment Ground has covered a wide range of subjects. From film to sports and back again, this blog holds true to it’s (seriously awesome) domain name. Though I could find no more than the name Samoondra on the pages of Entertainment Ground, with a bit of digging I found out that Entertainment Ground is the brainchild of Samoondra Rai from Nepal. Samoondra is a prolific blogger and appears to have knowledge and interest in technology as well.
With the other blogs that Samoondra has built up - like Sentient Sapien and Writer’s Pit, I would guess it will only be a matter of time until Entertainment Ground really comes into its own. Though English is clearly not his first language, Samoondra’s prose is clear, concise and enjoyable to read. Based on his other blogs, I would have guessed that the purpose of Entertainment Ground would be monetization, but there doesn’t appear to be any incorporated yet. With a great domain like that and his experience, I wouldn’t guess it’s too far off.
Getting down to business. Entertainment Ground really does seem to cover the gamut of entertainment. And one of the most interesting subjects that Samoondra discusses is board games. His logical writing style gives great overviews of games like bagh chaal and backgammon. Although I always love a good movie review, lessons and interesting bits about board games are less common online and I enjoyed reading Samoondra’s take.
From a summary and review of the classic cartoon Popeye the Sailor Man to his clear love for Manchester United, Samoondra’s writing is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. Keep your eye on Entertainment Ground because I think it’s ready to take off. And, follow Samoondra around the blogosphere if you get a chance, it’s a fun ride.
Three Recommendations to Improve Entertainment Ground
- The first thing I would do to improve Entertainment Ground is to add a few basics: an about page, some blogroll links and a bit of top navigation to make visitors feel not so stuck. Really the only way to move around the blog right now is by clicking on archives or categories. While this is perfectly acceptable, I think a tag cloud in the sidebar or a section at the top for recent or best posts would really add stickiness to the sight.
- The theme for Entertainment Ground appears to be pretty much out-of-the-box free Blogger theme. I would recommend converting to Wordpress and either customizing your theme yourself (if you have the skills) or paying a bit for a premium or customized theme. After looking at Samoondra’s other blogs, I’m fairly certain he’s educated about the importance of a blog theme, so I won’t go into that, but I will say that Entertainment Ground would be much helped by a unique theme and proper header/logo.
- The last thing I would do to really increase readership is to add a prominent link to the RSS feed and a way for readers to add posts to Digg, Del.icio.us and other social bookmarking and news sites. There is currently a sign-up box in the sidebar that allows visitors to receive posts via email, but it is becoming more and more important to give readers as many options for reading your content as possible. This means they need to be able to add it to their favorite feeder or they just might forget you and not come back. Application-based bookmarking just isn’t as effective as being able to easily add a blog or post to Del.icio.us or Digg it. By thinking a bit more about his readers, Entertainment Ground could easily become much stickier and gain popularity.
Overall I enjoyed reading through Entertainment Ground (and some of Samoondra’s other work). It is a blog that is clearly in its early stage of growth so I’ll be looking forward to seeing where it goes as time progesses. Here are links so you can check out Samoondra’s web presence:
This post was written as a prize for April’s contest at Perfect Blogging. If you’d like to include a review on Pajama Professional as part of your blog contest, just send an email to Sara at Sara L Christensen and we’ll talk.
Note to Samoondra: I included a bunch of links in this review, but I didn’t really know what anchor text you are focusing on for each of the sites. If you have specific anchor text besides what I’ve used please comment on this post and I will change the links for you.
