Happy Fourth of July, Americans!
Affiliate links can be long, annoying and just plain nasty. Not only do they let folks know that you are sending them to an affiliate page, they just annoy me. For a long time I used tinyurl to create cute little redirect links, but awhile back I found this great little code that lets me use my very own URL to create a redirect page to my affiliate pages. This video is a short step-by-step that will give you the details:
The final video came out a bit fuzzy (anyone know how to optimize screenshot videos or should I just spend some quality time with Google) so you might not be able to read the redirect code very well. So here it is:
<script>location="URL";</script>

Great video tutorial, very well narrated, clear and easy to understand!
I would say though, put a link to your website on the right hand corner of the video
Sara, good job, I probably downloaded Camtasia about the same time you did and have never used it, but you sure have me thinking now, I need to give this a go

That is really good and people must use it. Just try once you will never leave it. Sara, this is really a good post and you have really saved me.
Great tutorial, thanks for your help.
Why not slip a small website address on it for you ?
Essex,
Do you mean some sort of watermark or just an address at the end?
Thanks,
Sara

Well, what I meant was a water mark, on the lower right hand side of the video, during most of the segments.
That’s a great idea, but I’m not sure I can do that. I’m using Camtasia (the free version for Internet Marketers) and Windows Movie Maker. I’ll have to do a bit of research and see what I can do. I have seen that done before and I’m probably missing a good advertising option by not doing it. thanks for the tip!

That is really good!. Thank’s for the information that really so helpful.
Thanks for this is great idea. I have some unused domains I bought by impulse because they are cheap. Why I didn’t think of this before?
You can insert it with windows movie maker
If you need any help, let me know
I’ll be glad to help.
great site
Hey Sara, great post. I never thought to use Wordpress like that. I (stupidly) created some software that lets me type in a Title, Description, Keywords and use an iFrame redirect (using PHP). The only thing I have to do (after I create the file) is use an FTP program to create a new directory and upload the index.php file created.
I created a video showing how to download, install and use the iFrame Redirect Generator and even offer the software to any that want it (no sign up required).
I also invite you to take a look at the video. If it is of a *quality* you find acceptable, I would be happy to discuss my learning curve with Camtasia Studio. Perhaps save you a little time on lessons already learned?
Loving your blog (BTW) and plan to be a regular reader.

very useful. thank you!
Thank’s for the information.
Great video clear and easy to understand.
Sensational idea, I would never have thought of that. Sometimes the simplest things work best. And it’s fast too, and it saves you buying software to do it for you (which I did, sadly)
Wow, Definitely a Great video to help affiliate marketers bypass the visual road blocks caused by standardized variable links.
I book marked this one!
Awesome video — very helpful! I know I’m a bit late but I hope you had a great 4th as well!

Iti s the big help to shorten those long affiliate links. Thanks for sharing the tutorial. I am annoyed with those tiny urls because nobody now clicks on them.

Law, see post above for link to the iFrame redirect software I wrote to build a “hidden” affiliate link that prevents people being able to hijack your link.
With these two concepts in place, you can use your Wordpress blog and iFrame Redirect software to completely mask and hide those ugly URL’s.
