I need a bit of advice here. I want to register a single domain (.com) and I haven’t done this in awhile. I usually register in bulk and lately I’ve been buying el-cheapo dot infos. But I’m going to be launching a new flagship blog (very exciting!) and I, of course, need a dot com for it.

I love my hosting company, QHO, but they charge $15.95 for a year of registration. So I’m not going to register with them, but I don’t need hosting or email. During my searches, I have found that some of the offers that go with domain registration are interesting. For example, on some sites if I order an additional product, I can get a year domain registration for only $1.99. I’m intrigued, but it seems the only additional product I might use is Traffic Blazer. It’s $19.99 a year for the basic version – the Deluxe and Premium versions are too pricey to consider just as extras.

I know that adding $20 to what could be around $7 seems a little off, but if Traffic Blazer is cool I might be willing to pay a bit more and get a cheaper domain price. The only explanation the sites have of Traffic Blazer is: “Bring more traffic to your website,” “Increase customers” and “Get your site listed on major search engine rankings.”

That last point was clearly written by someone in the Department of Redundancy Department, but I’ll let it slide. These are fairly vague descriptions. Of course I want those things, but how is Traffic Blazer going to get them done?

So my questions are:

1. Has anyone used Traffic Blaster and what did you think of it?
2. Where do you buy your single .com domains and how much do you pay?

I appreciate any advice you guys can give. I’m sure this article will help others as well.

  • Thanks for sharing the valuable Information Tricia it is a great Help and a useful tips. Yes

it is a great savings my money
  • Hmm. Never used traffic blaster, but $20 for a domain is way to much. I would not pay more than 8 these days.

Thanks for sharing info. Coupon codes are great way to save money online. It is incredible that with just a click we can find number of products that have coupons. It saves time and money.

Great stuff about the Domain name Registrar I registered My Domain name in the site tucktail.com/
  • I am using GoDaddy. Using some of their promo codes you will receive discounted domain names for an year, enough time to monetize your site. The down thumbs for GoDaddy are: 1) their almost nonexistent customer service and 2) their spam policy (I will not detail this here, just give a search).
And about Traffic Blazer, it is basically just a search engine submission tool capable of checking your rankings in search engines to see if your site is in the first 100 results.
If that's all you do to get rankings and traffic from search engines then it want work unless your properly targeting keywords that no one else is targeting and they get some searches.
Even then it could take longer to get your site crawled due to the way their coming in contact with your site.
Instead using Traffic Blazer, I recommend to start building your back-link network (your site will be crawled and probably ranked in maximum one week) and to check your rankings use Rank Checker ad-on for Mozilla Firefox from seobook.com(its free). This way you will save those 20 bucks enough money to buy another 3 .com domains.
    Happy blogging Sara.
  • your suggestion is very enthusiastic as well as helpful for us because it’s belongs some important techniques for website building.

thank you an effective advice for me.
  • We can advice you using fabulous.com as their prices are rather reasonable and you can get discounts as well. Thanks for posting.

    Hey Sara!

From my knowledge and experience, I always use Godaddy to register a new domain. They are reliable and I have never had any issues. They also offer some great UK deals right now. Use promo code:

    30% off: slam3

    This works great.

As far as Traffic Blaster.com, I have never used it... If you end up trying it, let me know how it works. I am curious. Thanks and Cheers!
  • I only use godaddy. I have never had any problem with them and you can find coupon codes all over the web to get really sweet deals. I dont think I have ever paid more then $7.50 for any domain.
  • We use fabulous.com; their prices are good and the customer service is very personal and prompt.
  • Traffic Blaster seems decent, but personally I would recommend Namecheap.
  • Traffic Blaster seems decent, but personally I would recommend Namecheap.
  • I have had nothing but good experiences with godaddy. The price is usually the most affordable and they offer good customer service.
  • I don't know why, but I tend to use Optinom the most, their customer service is what has kept me with them I think! If I ever got confused on what I needed and forgot to buy, they would give it me for free, even if the little addon was only going to cost something like $0.75, it was just really nice :)

    I definitely recommend them! :)
  • I've always used godaddy when they have a special promotion going on. With some of their coupon codes you can get fantastic deals.

  • Godaddy is the best place to buy domain names for US $ 9.99 as this is an ICANN registrar. They have a decent control panel. Namecheap too is an ICANN registrar but never used them personally.
  • I've never tried Traffic Blaster - get all of my .co.uk domains from 123-reg. All .coms from dynadot.com.
  • Over here in the UK I use 123-reg.co.uk to register .com domain names. They work well although I have heard that their support isn't the best if something does go wrong. In terms of cost you're looking at around $30 for 2 years.
  • I'd also have to suggest GoDaddy as they do give credits as well. Plus they've got a fairly easy interface for managing all your domain names. Although I'd stay away from their hosting as I've had issues with speed. Their tech people deny any issue, but I've found other hosts just work better and faster.
Don't know about others, but I like the safeguards that they have built in for making sure domains don't expire unknowingly.
  • I have never used traffic geyser, I used another service that was free, that uploaded videos to other sites. Not as throughrough as traffic geyser, but pretty decent.

As far as domain names go, I have always used godaddy, as I have found their prices plus the discounts you find online, to make their prices to be one of the best.

  • I use Network Solutions, most .coms are $9.95 with no hidden catches. GoDaddy does have coupons for as low as $1.99 for the first year although I've never used them.

  • I recommend 123-reg.co.uk or names.co.uk they are great domain regs. 123 is cheaper, but names have better customer service
  • Thanks everyone.

Ross, that's the feeling I got about Traffic Blazer especially since it comes in three types. I imagine the cheapest version is just a teaser to get people to upgrade.

GoDaddy is fine, but I'd like to find a smaller host simply because I hate GoDaddy's customer service. I register nearly all my domain names at a different site from where I host them. So I think it's time try out Hover. Ross, I don't mind shameless plugs if it's about a good service. =) This site is all about sharing resources.

    Thanks,
    Sara
  • I second the godaddy suggestion. I always buy my domains there because they are constantly putting out new promo codes so I never pay more than $7 or $8 per domain.
  • Hi Sara -

This is a shameless plug, so I'll keep it brief. You might want to check us out at http://hover.com - we're not the cheapest registrar out there, but we specialize exclusively in registration and DNS management services. Many of our customers use our services to look after their domain names and use our DNS to point their domain name at another host provider or web service. It makes a lot of sense when you think about it - transferring your domain name can be a real hassle if things go south with your host provider, whereas uploading your content to somewhere else can be a little bit easier. Its a great way to protect your assets...

If you check us out and have any feedback, I'd love to hear from you - just drop me an email.

As far as Traffic Blazer goes, I can't say too much about it, except to pass along that most tools and services that make this sort of promise are usually too good to be true. Nothing helps build traffic like good old elbow grease - there are really no shortcuts.

    best,

    /ross
  • I suggest godaddy with a discount coupon. I don't remember what is it. But, you can easily get from googling. Recently, I bought a domain (.com) at $7++

  • I can recommend Namecheap as well.

You can use coupon threekings for 10%

And most of what traffic blazer is offering I think is available for free
  • Mikael,

Right. I actually have most of my domains registered in different places than where I host so that's no problem. I'll go check out Name Cheap.

    Thanks!
    Sara
  • I don't know Traffic Blaster so unfortunately I can't comment on it.

As for domain registration I use www.namecheap.com and use a coupon which will give you a price of about $8 per year for a dot com domain.

As for the host I use hostgator but you can easily use the host you already have. Takes 60 seconds to setup in namecheap's adm. module.
