Drop Hunt is the coolest new tool I have found in a long time. It is a completely free way to find expired (or ready-to-expire) domain names. I have found other free tools that do this, but not with all these search parameters:
Keywords
Extensions
Maximum character length
Exlude hyphens and/or numbers
Dictionary words
Maximum or minimum Alexa rank
Minimum or exact [...]

So far this year I have purchased several domain names. I purchased different names for different reasons. I have no desire to own a portfolio of hundreds, but I certainly spend a few minutes every now and then brainstorming and checking availability.
