Happy Birthday, Pajama Professional! One year ago today I published the first post to this blog. I was full of hope and couldn’t wait to fill this space up with my knowledge and research on internet marketing and blogging. Of course, I didn’t know anything about it. The whole idea was to just start posting and share what I learned as I learned it. The problem is that when I started – and I think this is true for a lot of people – I had no idea what I was getting myself into.
I haven’t posted much here lately because I have been spending the last couple of months really thinking about where I wanted Pajama Professional to go. I read blogs all over the map, but I felt a bit tied down writing solely about internet business here. There was plenty to write about, but it seemed that I was spending more and more time reading blogs about other things and getting a bit tired of launch after launch and the endless “Greatest” joint venture events.
I needed a balance.
After much thought I decided that, not only do I need to follow my own advice and post regularly, I needed to open up the scope a bit. I know that the experts all say that you need to micro-focus your blog in order to be successful, but I would rather slowly build a strong readership than quickly build my subscribers only to find that I’m bored with the topic or I have nothing original left to offer.
Toward the beginning of this year, LifeHack published an excellent article by A.J. West about creating a personal misison statement. During my decision process I reread this article and decided that perhaps writing a mission statement for PJ Pro would help me refine my ideas about where I’d like it to go. I want to open it up a bit, but I certainly don’t want it to be so unfocused that no one can figure out what it is about.
After much rethinking and revising, here is Pajama Professional’s new mission statement:
The mission of Pajama Professional is to provide high quality articles of interest to a diverse range of bloggers, small business owners and individuals in other internet-related fields. Through research, insight and creativity, this blog is a place for learning and thinking. Topics covered in this blog include any and all things of concern to internet professionals. Blogging, marketing, business basics, writing tips and personal development make up the core issues discussed here. The foremost goals are to help readers solve problems, discuss issues and expand their knowledge. I also aim to foster a sense of community and camaraderie so that the readers of Pajama Professional will be inclined to visit often and interact with me and other readers.
So there you have it. While the topics will mostly stay the same, I will be expanding a bit to focus a little more on personal development and business basics. My involvement in internet business has given me valuable information and insights that I believe can help others and spark conversation.
If you have stuck around during my absence, thank you! If you are just stopping by for the first time, welcome. I hope that everyone who reads this blog feels that their time was well-spent and decides to return.
