I love American Idol. I watch it religiously. When the first season debuted I was blown away by how cool the show was (apart from the tag-along host Brian) and how fun it was to watch the different themes every week.

Kelly was my favorite from the beginning. Though I’m not a huge fan now, I still love listening to all her live performances from the first season. I watched someone dance to Stuff Like That There on So You Think You Can Dance and was reminded that it was my hands-down favorite performance of Kelly’s.

So I found it on YouTube and thought I’d post it here just for posterity:



To tie it into the theme of this blog, I’ll note that Kelly had dreamed of being a singer for a long time and had nearly given up when American Idol auditions came to Texas. Her friend signed her up, she sang her a$$ off and the rest is history.

Kelly now has millions of dollars, tons of awards and several platinum albums to show for her work and talent. I think her story really illustrates that if you have a dream – no matter how huge and unattainable it may seem – nothing is impossible with determination and hard work.

  • Yeah, she's one of the Idols who've held up despite all the other season winners. One of the popular ones if I may say, the newer winners aren't even as famous as her.

  • Yes, Kelly was a little bit different than then she is now, although, I like more the music she makes today than the one that she made in the past.
  • She deserved to win more than anyone else who won on AI. Well, excluding David Cook. I love that guy too, though he's not as successful as Kelly today. LOL.
  • Kelly Clarkson still has a great voice, she got lost for awhile, but now I thinks shes back better than ever. Kelly seems so approachable and down to earth. I love her music.

Good on all the people for giving it a try I say - I can't sing so no chance for me, even singing in the shower I can hear animals cry !

  • It's strange looking back to what seems like yonks ago, but in fact is just a few years really, and seeing a star in the making. She's done very well for herself, but she's done it with talent that some can only dream about. That definitely helps!

  • I agree with you. If you have dreams and if you really want to achieve them, everything is possible. Most people only fail or do not achieve their dreams because they either don't believe in them self or they give up just right before they succeed.

  • I did not watch American Idol but i have seen the video which you have provided on your post. Really Kelly was looking so confident and attractive. She's voice is really awesome. I agree with you that nothing is impossible with determination and hard work. Nice post.
  • I did not watch American Idol for I guess the first 2 or 3 years, but now we don't miss it. Did not originally see this video, and I must say that she really sounded and presented herself well in the attached video. We also watch So You Think You Can Dance - My daughter and I look forward to watching these shows so that we can just relax and spend time together.

  • Mirjana Lucic played and lost in Auckland, Jelena Dokic lost to Mauresmo in Brisbane, and Taylor Dent lost to Gasquet in Brisbane. I haven't seen those names in the main draw since 2003.
