Welcome to the second lesson in my Seven Most Important Blog Lessons Series celebrating the two-year anniversary of Pajama Professional. In the first lesson, I talked about the importance of considering your blog’s audience. If you missed lesson one, you can find it here:
Today’s lesson is about patience. Building a successful blog takes time and hard work. Yes, there are some blogs that blow up within a few weeks or months of their debuts. But this is not he norm. New bloggers tend to think that if their blog doesn’t hit pay dirt within a few months then it never will. This belief is caused by the fact that blogs that do make a big splash get more attention. However, that doesn’t mean that slow and steady can’t win the race.
Most blogs started by newbies are abandoned within their first three months. Sometimes the creator underestimated the difficulty of managing a blog and producing regular, unique content. In other cases, newbie bloggers give up because they don’t see results fast enough. They read three ebooks that told them they should be making $1000 a week by their third week and when that didn’t happen they threw in the towel.
Most new businesses don’t make it through their first year because the financing just isn’t there. The business owner has to give it up and go work for someone else in order to make ends meet. Bloggers and some other online workers have a unique business opportunity that costs nearly nothing and allows us to work a day job and still have time to work on our blogging business. As a blogger, you have time to build your business without giving up your existing income. Just like any business, making money online takes time, testing and experience. If you can be patient and put in the time and energy, you’ll be able to build a viable business.
Stop back tomorrow for Lesson Three: Consistency is Essential.
