dAfter wanting to try it out for awhile now, I have finally decided to experiment with a polyphasic sleep schedule. Initially inspired by Steve Pavlina’s polyphasic sleep experiment, the idea of sleeping just 2-3 hours a day intrigued me greatly.

Most folks who have tried a polyphasic schedule have experienced a major shift in how they looked at time as well as a week or so of adjustment that ranges from foggy to nearly unbearable, depending on who you ask. As I still have full control over my schedule, this is the perfect time for me to give this a shot.

To track my experience, I have started a new blog:

Polyphasic Sleep Log

There I will share my mindset, information about polyphasic sleeping and various activities and projects I will be doing to keep myself busy – especially during the intial adjustment period. Given my caffiene addition and frequent insomnia, I expect my transition to be a bit rockier than those who already sleep regularly.

I probably won’t discuss the experiment much here, but I will most likely be writing more here than I have in the past month or so because of the extra hours I’ll have in the day. If you’d like to follow my polyphasic sleep progress, please visit the other blog.

  • this is the first i've heard about "polyphasic sleep". i checked out your other blog and steve pavlina's thing and it seems interesting. i have insomnia and a caffeine addiction as well, and the idea of sleeping on any type of solid schedule seems impossible, but i will read more and perhaps give it a try.
  • I also read that Pavlina article...pretty fascinating. I remember hearing that either Michaelangelo or Leonardo Da Vinci was a polyphasic sleeper. There's no way I could do that with the type of schedule I have...it's just too much, and too unpredictable right now (I have two small children). But, in theory it sounds pretty cool.
  • Very interesting -- I've never even heard of that before!

Being overwhelmed with work makes me use that schedule involuntarily lol. It's "fun" for a day or two or three but after it gets pretty dumb. Can't wait to sleep hehe
