My favorite Young Entrepreneur, Jamie Harrop relaunched his blog yesterday. Not only is it new and improved, he has included some excellent features that I have never seen used quite like this.

First of all, he has created a subscribers-only section that is only available to visitors who subscribe to his RSS feed. This section is full of cool extras like bonus articles, conference details and even the chance to get a free, permanent link. Once you subscribe, you will be able to click into the members area from your RSS reader.

Another something new is an upcoming articles section in the sidebar. I think this is a killer idea for an authority blog like Jamie’s. First, it lets regular readers know what they have to look forward to and, second, new readers see that this blog features consistently updated content. Two great benefits from what I am certain is a simple piece of code and taking the time to stay ahead of your posting schedule. When you click on the article titles in the Upcoming Articles section, you are taken to a summary of the article. How cool is that? Is that a plugin. How did you do that Jamie?

Being the forward-thinking smarty that he is, Jamie has designed his site to allow for many uses of video. Not only will he have his own videos available, but he is also featuring helpful videos about training, internet marketing and other topics that are relevant to any of us trying to make money online.

The design of Jamie’s site has always been very user-friendly. The new design is no exception. Jamie uses a few basic colors and a very intuitive layout to draw the eye where it should go, while not detracting from the real focus: the content. One feature of the new design that I found quite intriguing is the ability to hide the header. When you do this, about and inch and a half of the header slides up and away and you are left with more room to use the navigation tools and read the content. Though this isn’t especially impactful on my 19″ LCD, I imagine it would be an extremly welcome change if I were accessing Jamie’s page with my phone or blackberry – or even viewing it on my small laptop screen.

I have always enjoyed Jamie’s smooth, easy prose and his entrepreneur interview section shows that this extends to his ability to speak with others as well. His questions are insightful and unique, bringing out responses to which other interviewers may not have come near. He’s not afraid to ask about mistakes in order to help his readers learn from them.

There is a lot to love about the new and improved Jamie Harrop Dot Com. I highly recommend checking it out. Give yourself time to read through it because it is packed with great information and high-quality content.

  • He does have some cool features on his blog but I don't really care for the bland layout. It's very washed out and rather hard to navigate. You're not quite sure where to look when you first load up his page. Still, cool blog, thanks for posting about him.

    Cheers,

  • Jamie,

I'm glad you enjoyed the review. I really like your redesign and the original new features.

I'm bummed that the upcoming posts feature isn't a plugin, but it definitely should be. It is a killer idea. I have always wanted to write a Wordpress plugin as well. My best friend has a book with a chapter about how to do it, I just haven't gotten around to reading it yet. I think you should definitely look into creating the upcoming posts plugin. People would absolutely love it.

  • Hey Sara!

Wow! This post was totally unexpected. Reading it gave me that warm, fuzzy feeling inside that creates an involuntary smile on my face. Thank you so much! :-)

I'll be entirely honest and say that the Upcoming Posts feature isn't a plugin. I've resorted to updating it each time I need to add a new post to the list. But I'm ok with that, because the value of that feature is worth far more than my two minutes a few times a week to update it.

With that said, I've always wanted to try my hand on writing a WordPress plugin, so maybe this would be a good place to start.

Thanks, once again, for writing this Sara! It was the perfect article to wake up to. :-)
