If you are looking for a Brooklyn dentist, Zoc Doc dot com is ready to help.

If you are wondering where this is coming from, bear with me. You see, anyone who reads this blog knows that I love technology. I especially love online technology that is not only cool, but also helpful. So when the folks at Zoc Doc asked if I would review their service, I readily agreed.

Their service easily fits into the cool, helpful online tech category. Though they currently have listings only within Brooklyn and New York, the company soon hopes to extend itself beyond metropolitan New York City. I, for one, can’t wait.

Growing a site like this takes time, but once it catches on, I expect to see dramatic progression. Zoc Doc has investors and a very solid site to build on. The idea is very simple: you search for a doctor or dentist in your area, read reviews, select one and book an appointment. You even have the option of entering insurance information so the provider will have your data before you even speak directly with anyone in the office.

Despite the fact that the idea is simple, it is quite brilliant. Booking health care appointments is one of the few things I am not currently able to do online. Sure, my doctor has an email address, but I have to call if I want to schedule anything. With Zoc Doc it’s just a quick search and submit and you’re all done.

Although the interface is still in the beta stage of development, it is a user-friendly as can be. There are just a few simple fields to fill out and then you will be able to view doctors and make appointments. You can choose a variety of specialists as well as general practitioners and dentists. Each doctor’s listing includes the medical school from which he or she graduated, a patient recommendation score, the insurance plans they accept and other helpful information such as the languages they speak and their professional affiliations.

Having all this information in one place makes Zoc Doc a fantastic use of new technologies. I expect to see it branch out a lot in the next few years. Everyone needs health care and this site makes it very easy to find exactly the practioner you need.

  • That one is really clever! I'm sure that lots of people will like this concept.
  • We had a plan thru a work affiliation and it just got canceled. What a pain, you sign up for one year and the next year, you get to start over looking again. Nice to see a service like this, could be a big help

  • Zoc Doc.com is an online medical service provider has done good development in health services. Let it expand its scope of services and more regions under its coverage.
  • Great writeup of a great resource! I first heard of ZocDoc when they won an award from PC Magazine: Top Websites of 2008:

  • Addendum: I think I should have made my point more clearly. Good ideas come and go and sometimes however good you might be, things do not go bright. This is a risk when you are ahead of the others. Documenting in a way the experience, business and technical decisions can be worthwhile for all other on-line ventures.

  • I think most people are smart enough not to judge based on one bad review. Dave's comment is true of all public reviews. The doctor you choose is very important.
  • I think that giving doctors rating can be a dangerous game. All it takes is one disgruntled patient to ruin a doctors reputation.
  • @Sara: I knew it :-=). Yet, the idea of Zoc Doc is very good, indeed. Although I doubt you will have access to such data, it might be interesting to follow them up and post your findings, here.

  • I also like the idea. Other businesses should start to consider to do the same. A lot of things will go online.
  • That's pretty awsome; I just wish they had something like this for the UK.
  • I too simply love online technology. Zoc Doc dot com sounds like a pretty useful resource for sure.
  • Sounds Great, I hate calling only to be put on hold for ten minutes then being told they can fit me in two months from now.
  • There pretty neat. In this busy days and times, I am always looking for places and tools that can help me simplify my life, my search. Thanks for the post.
  • Ohhhhh! I hope they expand this to Seattle! Customer reviews are a wonderful idea ... health is more important than home improvement ( etc ), so much that we tend not to look at doctors and dentists as "service providers" who "work for" us, and entirely fail to do the kind of diligence that goes into buying a car. Even though the stakes are so much higher.

    Great find!

  • Experiments in Cyberspace: you may be onto something there. I wore braces for five years so I suppose I am a bit OCD about my teeth. I guess it's running over into my blog as well. LOL! =)

  • Looks pretty promising. It will be really great if this expands. Then probably on a worldwide basis? Haha.. thanks for the sharing the review by the way.

One of my friends could've used this when he had asthma. He had to move out of his house (which had mold in places you wouldn't believe) due to lack of communication with his doctor. Fortunately, he doesn't have asthma anymore, but I've got family that could use this too.
  • I'm actually a college student and this is really useful for me. Luckily I am still under my Dad's insurance, but once that runs out, I'll be in a tight spot.

I have an internship where they claim any "preexisting conditions" can mean a 3-year wait to get actual coverage. That is just ridiculous. I declined coverage obviously.
  • It looks like you have huge dental issues. First Wisconsin, now New York... Zoc Doc is sure to help you first. :-)

  • I am in GA so couldn't use this service. But it's funny you should mention it because my dentist just sent me out an email with the details to make appointments, check my accounts, etc. online. Looks like that's the future and I like it.
